Meditation for Empowered Living
The
power of meditation can be harnessed in daily life. The scattered mind can be
concentrated and focused on a positive thought in meditation, increasing its capacity
in manifolds. Meditation is the panacea for the disturbances of modern life.
Many of us don’t find enough time to meditate. But even fifteen minutes a day can
be sufficient to bring some positive life changes. If done with dedication,
meditation can change life’s perspective, increase work efficiency and evoke
spiritual growth in us. Those who meditate regularly have a definite advantage
over those who don’t.
From mindfulness to meditation:
The
practice of mindfulness in all activities helps to concentrate. A person who
remains attentive to all activities can meditate easily because his mind is
constantly focused. This focus is further deepened in meditation as we
introspect within ourselves. Introspection gives us clarity of mind that
translates into specific mental power. The journey from mindfulness to
meditation requires regular practice, and those who stick to the proper way
surely reap the benefits. It is a journey within ourselves where we become
observers of the ripples created within our minds and slowly subdue them to get
a vision of tranquillity. From the primary stage, as we delve deeper into
meditation, we get to the core of ourselves, and higher spiritual attainment
becomes possible at the higher stages of practice.
Follow the proper way:
For
meditation to be effective, it has to be done correctly. Proper posture is
essential. The mind should remain passive during the meditation observing the
thoughts silently. If meditation is done with the mind, it will lead to mental
fatigue and drowsiness.
Meditation
should be done in the morning or evening on an empty stomach for at least 2
hours after a meal. The cleanliness and hygiene requirement must be followed
before meditation; ideally, a bath of cold water is preferred before the
meditation session. It also keeps the body cool and the mind equanimous, which
helps in concentration.
Harness the potential of the mind:
With
daily meditation, you will experience gradual changes in your life. You will
evolve as a better person with a developed thought process. To be conscious of
the benefits is to use them in your daily life. Throughout the day, carry on
the tranquillity and calmness gained from meditation in all your activities.
You will experience activities in more detail and less intrusive thoughts pervading
your mind. As the quality of your life increases, you will understand the
goodness of daily meditation.
A few simple ways
A
common way of
meditation
is to meditate on a luminous point between the eyebrows. This is where the
third eye, or ‘Kutastha Chaitanya is located. All the cosmic blessings enter us
at this point. While sitting in a meditative pose with the eyes closed, the
mind should concentrate on this point, and a light will be seen after some
time. Slowly it should be imagined that this light encompasses our whole body
and then spreads into our surroundings. The boy and the mind will feel light
with this practice.
Another
ideal place for meditation is the region of your heart. When concentrated here,
we can tap into spirituality easily. Imagine a pot filled with clear water,
unruffled and the reflection of the midday sun is reflected on it. Look at this
reflected image and intensely concentrate on it. After some time, this
reflection will be one with the actual sun, and there will be only one sun. The
sun represents ‘Paramatman’ or the supreme soul.
Meditation
is also possible with self-introspection. The separation of the 'subtle body'
from the 'physical body' can be done in meditation. For this, you have to
imagine yourself seated in a meditative posture in front of you and concentrate
on this figure. Imagine the 'physical body' and the 'subtle body' are focused
on each other in meditation. This way, you will be aware of the 'subtle body'
and identify it from the ‘physical body’.
Another
form of meditation involves a vital force that is very effective. The spinal
cord is an essential component of this type of meditation. First of all, it
should be imagined that there are a thousand petals of lotus of white colour
upside down on the top of our head. It should be clearly visible, and imagined
drops of honey are dripping from it and spreading downwards through the spinal
column to its base. At the bottom, there is a source of energy that is called
muladhar. When the drops of honey reach here, a heat arises, and a flame emanates
through the spinal column upwards. It reaches the heart, and there is a lotus turned
upward red colour. Inside it, there s a flame, and the light of this flame
engulfs our body gradually and spreads into the surroundings. This will
significantly lighten the body and mind if done for ten to fifteen minutes.
There
are various types of meditation practice, and each has its own benefits. The bottom
line is that it should be done with proper concentration and for a sufficient
time to get its benefit. It is advisable to try a technique and get its
benefits before going for another method of meditation. Each process depends on
careful completion for success, and any fuss should be avoided while
practising.
Benefits of daily meditation:
When
you incorporate meditation into your daily routine, it will come naturally and
transform your outlook. With a focused mind, you can achieve incredible results
in your life. As you embark on this journey, your effectiveness will increase
significantly, and you will fulfil much promise in life. Your life will not be
the same as before. Through regular meditation, you can develop essential mind
power.
